The Only Way to Build Confidence

There is only one way to build confidence.

That is through “victory experiences”.

By getting wins on the board and succeeding on a regular basis.

No one ever felt good about themselves by repeatedly failing.

You become confident by stacking up small wins over a lengthy period of time.

Yet so many people set themselves up for failure.

Here’s a prime example we’re all familiar with -- New Year's Resolutions.

The new year rolls around and the conversation and routine that follows goes a little something like this.

January 1

You declare you will go to the gym five days/week, even though you haven't gone for months.

You say you will cut out all the booze and alcohol from your diet, even though you had more than a few just last week.

You promise there will be no more sugary or fatty snacks, even though you've got a pantry full of them.

You will say no to bread, rice, pasta and any form of carbs (because carbs are the devil), even though your usual lunch is a sandwich.

January 3

You're not sure if you have time to make it to the gym today, so you skip it.

One failure.

You have a long day at work and need a little pick-me-up so you indulge in a few biscuits with your coffee.

Two failures.

You didn't prepare any food for dinner so you order a pizza.

Three failures.

That isn’t breeding any confidence or self-belief.

It makes you feel like shit.

You feel bad about letting yourself down and messing up your plan.

And you’re only 3 days in!

Imagine what the rest of the year — and your body — will look like if you continue down the same path?

The goals you set were unrealistic and so unattainable you didn't give yourself a fighting chance.

Rather than going all guns blazing, trying to undo years worth of bad habits in one week, try this approach instead.

Initially, set a few small goals which you believe are “too easy”.

What you will notice is that you'll smash those targets and goals straight away.

It'll make you feel great for getting some quick wins on the board and build instant momentum.

That it is how you start to build confidence within yourself!
