How To Become Disciplined
This is something which most people with meaningful health and fitness goals want to achieve.
The ability and skill to become more disciplined.
To make better food choices
To prioritise time for exercise
To get to bed at a realistic hour
All the habits and skills necessary to be successful with your body.
Make no mistake, this is a skill and something you can learn and develop.
It isn’t something you are (or aren’t) born with. Everyone can cultivate and learn the skill of discipline.
Yes, you too!
You build it up over time the same way as any other skill - with practice.
Let me start off by defining what this term means.
So many people misinterpret what it actually means.
Discipline - Doing what needs to be done, regardless of how you feel about it.
In essence, it means doing things you don't want to.
Take a moment to let that sink in.
If you wish to become disciplined, you will need to do a lot of things which you don't want (or like) to do.
Do you still want to become disciplined?
Awesome. I do, too!
The thing about discipline is that it transfers to every area and endeavour in life.
In your work or business. Your home life. With your relationships. Your health and fitness.
Literally everything.
The more disciplined you become, the more freedom you will have.
So how do you cultivate and develop this skill?
Wake up earlier
Take a cold shower in the morning
Go for a walk in the rain
Eat a salad instead of chips
Have a water rather than a beer or a glass of wine
Go to the gym, even when you don't feel like it
Read a book instead of mindlessly scrolling social media
Do anything which makes you uncomfortable.
Perform any activity which you don't like doing.
That is how you develop discipline.
There isn't anything "else" or extra.
There is no hidden secret or magic formula.
No-one is holding anything back from you. It is hidden in plain sight.
You simply do things which you don’t enjoy or like to do. That’s it!
Discipline will help you do your gym training when you're dead tired and would rather go home and sit on the couch.
Discipline will help you make the right food choices when you'd much prefer to go through the drive-thru at McDonald's.
Discipline will help you do what needs to be done regardless of how you feel about it.
Make no mistake about it, disciplining your mind is essential.
If you want to get the most out of your body and life, you must learn to become disciplined.
Don’t give in to the instant pleasure and satisfaction at the expense of your big and meaningful goals.
You’ll regret it, every time.
Delay gratification (by being disciplined) and play the long game.
